How Do I Get a Library Card?

Anyone who lives, owns property, or works in Brandon Township is eligible to receive a Brandon Township Library Card. The first card is free, replacement cards cost $1.00. Proof of residency is required. We accept a driver's license or State ID with current address in Brandon Township, a utility bill, rent receipt, or tax bill. If you are a student enrolled in the Brandon School District but live outside of Brandon Township, you can receive a card valid for one year from date of registration for a fee of $6.00.Those individuals not residing in Brandon Township may purchase a Non-Resident card for an annual fee of $150 per family or $100 per individual.

A child of any age may obtain a library card when accompanied by parent or legal guardian. An application form must be filled out and signed by the parent/guardian; the parent/guardian is responsible for the materials their child borrows.

When coming to the library, you should have your library card with you to borrow materials. You do not need a library card to use library materials, attend programs, make photocopies or request reference information from the public reference desks.

Michicard

Brandon Township Public Library participates in Michicard, the statewide reciprocal borrowing program that provides:

  • in-person access to the resources and information housed in libraries throughout Michigan
  • guest borrowing privileges at over 300 public and academic libraries throughout the state.

The list of participating libraries includes Holly Township Library, Genesee District Library and Lapeer District Library, as well as, Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University and other significant academic libraries in Michigan.

To get a Michicard sticker, present your library card at the Circulation Desk. We'll verify that you are a current Brandon Township resident and are a borrower in good standing with TLN. You will then be given the Michicard sticker for your library card. Take that card to any participating library and you will be given guest* borrower privileges to that library. (Bring your Michicard and State of Michigan ID if you are a Michigan resident to enable you to borrow from Michicard libraries).

*The lending policies of the participating library vary from place to place, so it is always best to call ahead if you are looking for access to a specific collection or service. Participating libraries normally lend only printed materials to Michicard borrowers. Some libraries may loan other types of resources if their local library policies permit. Material borrowed through this program should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed, and local library policies and late fees apply. For more information, see the “Frequently Asked Questions”, "Michicard Fact Sheet”.
